Early Birds, Night Owls & Holiday Hedgehogs - Out Of School Care Based In Bishops Stortford Area
Windhill Early Birds, Night Owls
In January 2006 The Havers Primary school and The Firs Junior school were combined to create Windhill Primary school. I approached the school at the end of January 2006 to propose setting up an Early Birds & Night Owls site there, and following their agreement for this, in April 2006 we opened our second site there.

Part of our agreement at the Windhill site was that we, as a company would be allowed to collect children from other schools to bring them to the Windhill club. As such, we currently collect children from St Michaels Primary, Bishops Stortford College, Richard Whittington Primary, Mannorfields Primary and Hillmead Primary.

Our staff arrive at each school 15 minutes before the school day ends, to ensure they are there in plenty of time. The staff member collecting your child will always be the same, if for some reason the usual staff member does become unavailable and changes have to be made, you and your child will always be informed of these changes before they take place. All staff have the correct car insurance to transport your child safely to our Windhill site, and any child requiring a booster seat will be provided with one for the short journey to club.

At Early Birds breakfast club, the children can come in and play a huge variety of games, puzzles, drawing, snooker table, lego, role play area and games console. We provide a wide and varied breakfast selection, including muffins, toast, crumpets, all jams, rice cripies, corn flakes, frosties, weetabix to name just a few, orange or apple juice, milk or water. Children are encouraged to serve their own breakfast and pour their own drinks, although the staff are on hand to provide help to those that need it and they will also ensure that all children do eat a healthy and nutritious breakfast before they start their school day. After a good breakfast the children can brush their teeth and join in with the fun and games around them.

Children are encouraged to clear away and tidy up before leaving for school, from 8.20am we start to take the children to their schools (as listed above). Please note from September 2014, the breakfast club at Windhill will be offered at a discounted rate of £5 per session.

The room that we use for clubs at Windhill is bright and airy and includes a kitchen area which we use for preparing breakfasts and teas, we also use it for baking activities with the children. The school are fantastic and also allow us use of the early years garden which is a secure area for our younger children, with climbing equipment and a castle, there is a basketball cage and an adventure playground for the older children.

Night Owls starts at 3pm and all the children arrive from Windhill school first, they are brought to club by their teacher or teaching assistant. Children for all the other schools have all arrived at club by 3.45pm. Once the children arrive they self register, wash their hands and have a well earned drink and a snack. They are allowed to play with all our toys, games, games console, listen to some music and play in our  role play area. We have a structured session, with planned activities and craft which the children are encouraged to do but are completely optional. Children are encouraged to give us suggestions on what they would like to do at their club, we have a suggestion box and the children can plan in activities that they would like to do.

Children are served a meal every day at 5pm, we do class this as a light tea before you take your child home for a family meal, however we are generous with our portions and certainly our younger children might not need anything else once they are at home. Please take a look at our Menu page to view our current menu.

Night Owls comes to a close at 6.30pm, our policy is that you collect your children by this time. If you do arrive after this time, there is a late fee of £5 for every 15 minutes over. We do ask that you call us if you are running late so that we are able to notify the staff looking after your child and reassure your child that you are on your way. We will ensure that your child is looked after and made to feel happy. We do ask that if you find that you are going to be very late, you have a friend or family member who could step in and collect your child, so that staff may get home too. This friend or family member will need to be an approved contact as stated in your starter pack and they will need to know the unique password set up for your child's security.

We had our latest Ofsted inspection March 2014 and we were awarded GOOD overall.  Please click here to read our report in full.

We would suggest that if you are looking to put your child into Early Birds or Night Owls, drop in or make an appointment to look around, meet the staff and collect a welcome pack where you will be able to find all the information you need to settle your child in with us.

Please do feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
